Kristina Leigh Wiggins was raised in West Texas and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University’s College of Architecture with a Bachelor of Environmental Design in 2001. Upon graduating she married her high-school sweetheart and started her career in The Woodlands, Texas working for Mark Todd Architects and then Bellacasa Design Associates (now known as Kevin Spearman Design Group). In 2004, at the age of 24, she started her own architectural design company, LWJ Design and Consulting. Within a year of starting her company she carried a year-and-a-half wait list. In 2007 and 2010 she was blessed with two little girls, and in 2011 she decided to slow down her work load so that she could focus on her children and health issues they were struggling with.
After the blessing of her children’s health having improved she turned her focus back to design and her dreams of writing a book to guide people through the process of building a home and an app to keep her organized based off her experience as a designer and project manager. Kristina Leigh often says that "she loves how moms are always so sneaky talented," because often once children enter the picture the focus of conversation is school and kiddos, so you could be acquainted with a mom for months and not have the slightest idea of what they did before they were a mom, that they were an amazing teacher, lawyer, engineer, etc.
It was in 2013 that divine intervention would help Kristina Leigh’s path cross with that of one of those sneaky talented moms. It was the first day of her oldest child’s first grade school year, and a new family, from Australia had moved to town. They were just the most adorable family and the mother’s name was Larissa, and she and Kristina Leigh would soon become fast friends, as would their children. They had had countless playdates and school events over the span of a year and one day stumbled onto the topic of Kristina Leigh’s plans for her book, to which Larissa said, "I can help you with that!" It turned out Larissa had owned a very successful graphic design firm in Australia called Kuraman Creative before she came to Texas.
Larissa is immensely talented, and right away she proved to be just the perfect mentor and guide to give Kristina Leigh the confidence to help her develop her book, and all with only utilizing children’s nap times and time when the kids were in bed for the night to work! Moms really are amazing creatures!
It was during this time that Kristina Leigh’s youngest daughter developed a mosquito allergy, and so she began to split her attention between finding a solution to protect her daughter and continuing to develop her book and app. But all of the pieces finally started to fall into place in late 2015 and 2016. Kristina Leigh launched lil&tess, which is a fashionable repellent-treated mesh clothing line in honor of her daughter, and signed on with Squareball Studios to develop her app and Brown Books Publishing to publish her book.
Despite the fact that Larissa has since left Texas to return to Australia, she remains a great friend, and Kristina Leigh will be eternally grateful to her for her generosity in sharing her talents. Kristina Leigh also feels so blessed to be working with such talented people at Brown Books Publishing and Squareball Studios that are helping to make her dreams a reality.
